2010
Remember the movie 2010, and how futuristic it was?
This movie was filmed in 1984. Pictured here is Roy Scheider's hand, near his ultra-futuristic 20 lb portable computing machine. Time really flies. My laptops (work and personal) weigh only 3 lbs, and Roy Scheider is no longer alive. Weird.
Here are my two favorite articles of the past year.
Here is an article on how graphic representation and bullet points are changing the way people think. This relates very heavily to my job as metrics manager.
This article is about how much of your personal information is available to banks, and how every credit card purchase is tracked to make a composite portrait of you. It is the best article I have read in several years. It reminds me of my work with a certain political party that had tied voting records to consumer information. This meant that we knew what someone's purchasing power was, how many kids and of what ages, pets, religious affiliations, and any political/charitable donations they had made. I am sure both the Republican and Democratic parties use this information.
